Blog Post #9 AR and VR Resource

 After reading the ISTE blog post about 23 resources you can bring AR and VR into the classroom, I discovered a site and device to use called JigSpace. The first application that came to mind for use was in the Learning Technology Centers of high schools. Sometimes these are called vocational schools. I am sure it could have its benefits in a regular education classroom, but I think after further investigation the practical use for design, and programming in such areas as electrical, or construction presentation seems to be more beneficial. 

A little more about the app is that it is a demonstration app that uses interactive 3D model presentations – known as Jigs – that are great for product visualization, design, marketing, training, and more. Think about how a teacher could use the app for a presentation/instructional tool on how to properly create an electrical panel before a student has the actual hands-on experience of doing it in real life. They can have an experience that is close to the real event to be able to make mistakes without injury or negative consequences. Mistakes help us learn, but when you are in a trade, mistakes can be very costly.  

Another feature of Jigs is that it  can be shared privately or publicly. And anyone can access created Jigs on any device without the need of the JigSpace app. If the user has the availability they can even view them in AR.

The free version of the app includes a 20MB upload limit per 3D file, 200MB of storage, basic web AR viewer, 2 user accounts, and Help Center access. Paid versions can be purchased in the app.  Overall, I can see a real benefit to trying this application in any classroom.
